For the past three years, I’ve been consumed by the idea of adding embroidery to knitted fabric. As a knitter, my first foray into this fun whirlwind of POSSIBILITIES was to embroider knitted pieces that I designed and made by hand. I love the process and the finished projects of this creative cycle!
However, I've discovered that it is equally thrilling - and much faster! - to upcycle a sweater already in your closet. Add a bit of texture here, a lot of color there and before you know it, that garment that was always overlooked is the one you reach for first!
This two hour class will be all about sharing the tips and tricks I've developed and the lessons I've learned through the years. During the class we will talk about how to discern different types of knitted fabric, "mark your canvas" on your sweater and choose a motif, work with the shaping and drape of your sweater and factor in fit - before and after the piece is embroidered. And of course, we will talk about choosing materials and designing your own motifs!
Date/Time: Sunday, June 26, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. EST, via Zoom
Materials: A sweater to be upcycled, a darning needle and yarn. (I'd like to help you choose a sweater! If you register for the class, I will ask that you send me two photos of your sweater - one closeup and one of you wearing the piece. Together, we will make sure that you have something that does not require a hoop. More on this in the PDF you download upon registration!)
Class Size: Due to the highly interactive nature of this class, participation will be limited to 10 students.
