This beautiful hat was the fourth sample I made to write my pattern, Positive Space. I chose this title as a play on the words “negative space”, a favorite design concept of mine. I’m always drawn to art that switches from light to dark and vice versa to maximize visual interest. That's exactly what happens at the edge of the brim when hues shift focus in a way that's sure to draw the eye. Another element to love about the hat is the secret pop of purple inside the brim. This fabulous color isn't just beautiful, it's also functional. The doubled brim provides and extra layer of warm for your ears! The colors shift along the outside of the hat in a mesmerizing way, as if gliding from one hue to the next. I
Materials:
Merino wool dyed in Japan and Denmark. Discontinued Japanese wool provides the shifting color on the exterior of the hat. The creamy white and pop of purple is made in Denmark and is non-super wash wool. These yarns are a bit "toothy", which is to say they are not exceedingly soft to the touch, but can be worn in the harshest of weather. Rain, sleet, snow... this is the one you'll reach for When you're in from the weather, simply lay your hat flat to dry and it will be good to go for the next storm!
Sizing:
20" circumference, 8.5" length. Sized to fit most adult heads like a beanie with a bit of volume on top.
Care:
Carefully hand wash and rinse in cold water using a wool wash. Do not mix with other garments. Do not agitate excessively or expose to temperature extremes, or the wool could felt. Gently press (not wring!) out excess water with a towel and dry flat in the original shape. Do not hang to dry. Alternatively, you can use a trusted dry cleaner.
