This scarf features two geometric designs. One end of the scarf, encompassing one third of the piece, is a bold graphic pattern of staggered diamonds. The remainder of the scarf is striped on the diagonal. The juxtaposition of the two patterns sparks curiosity and catches the eye.
An unexpected surprise to this scarf is the fact that it can be turned inside out to wear. In knitter-speak, this concept is known as showing your “floats”. Floats are the stands of yarn that occur when knitting color work. Whichever color is not being knitted in the moment is carried behind the knitting. Often times, you'll find floats hidden inside a sweater, mittens or a hat. But this scarf shows that what is inside is just as beautiful as the outside! The ends of the scarf are not sewn together allowing the wearer to decide if they want to show the smooth, polished side or the equally-appealing, textured side.
Enhancing the beautiful design is the yarn itself. This gorgeous silky merino was hand dyed in Berlin. At times, the two colors are a perfect contrast, maximizing the effect of the knitted color work. However, there are times when the colors shift and what was light is now dark and vice versa. In these instances, the geometry of the design is momentarily blurred, giving the effect of aged pottery. What’s more, there are tiny spots of color throughout - turquoise! orange! yellow! - that further delight the eye. It was such a pleasure to knit this piece, furthering the artistry of the dyer, @boredomkills.design.

This scarf was knit with fingering weight yarn made of a beautiful blend of springy superwash merino and silk. These two fibers make for a beautiful drape and just a hint of shine. (70% superwash merino / 30% silk)
This is a OOAK piece designed and knitted by Carolyn Bloom (That's me!)
Carefully hand wash and rinse in cold water using a wool wash. Do not mix with other garments. Do not agitate excessively or expose to temperature extremes, or the wool could felt. Gently press (not wring!) out excess water with a towel and dry flat in the original shape. Do not hang to dry.
